That little guy is probably 2-4 years old or so, and its a really bad sign he's that close to people at that age.
Thats an older male in a dumpster two houses away from my girlfriend a couple months ago. There was a recent killing by a bear in the area that sent a few schools into lockdown as well.
I dont necessarily agree with the NJ Bearhunt, but I fully understand the necessity. These animals need fear, and in general, we do a very poor job at making them scared, and we do a poor job at discouraging them from coming close. Especially a female with cubs. Theres no more dangerous bear than a female with cubs.

thunder bay is a small town (well, by my standards) so i'm not surprised to see bears and dear on campus alot. for the most part, securit does chase them away, and we try to not interact with them.

That's kind of the issue. Obviously you don't want to bring food or anything, but you need to be really deter them from being around you. Absolutely no eye contact, be the bigger monster. That's about it really. They need to associate people with negative interaction, otherwise it will simply get worse over time.

if it was a grizzly bear, you would want to be running for the hills, grizzlies are like 16 times more likely to kill a person vs a black bear.
